Thank you, Dear Customers!!!!

So...we are all human. We all make mistakes. I know I do and my husband and I know FULL well that no one is perfect. That's why we have apologies, forgiveness, and other big character building words.

HOWEVER, in the car business in our current economy...we need to be darn near perfect all of the time to earn people's business and prove that we are honest and knowledgeable when others are handing over their hard earned dollar for a car or for service on their car. So why do I say this? Are our employees not good enough? NO WAY....we have the greatest, most loyal staff in the world....however, things happen in a day....stuff comes up.....mistakes are made. I wish my husband could be everywhere, every place all the time. (Man, that would be awesome because I have so many projects at home for him to do!!!!) He could make sure there aren't any mistakes or anything.....but only in a different world.

SO, I want to thank 2 customers in particular. There is one what just bought a new minivan from us that we had delivered from CA when there was a closer one available from a dealer that refused to trade the car to us. I want to thank him for his loyalty and his solid word. It gave me hope in man kind that still today, people and their word can still be trusted. I'm sure that he could have many saved a few bucks but it was worth it to him to do business with a local, family owned business. You have restored in me the faith that people still want to do good.

Next, we have a long time customer who is on her 2nd Chrysler 300C and we see her regularly in our service department. She came by to look at an Aspen and is weighing different options between and new and a pre-owned one. The sales consultant on Saturday did not understand that she was ready to purchase and went on a path of total misunderstanding and let the customer go home thinking we were going to call her with the numbers. And of course, that car was sold later that afternoon making the customer think we were just full of it. I want to apologize for the miscommunication and the sales consultant and sale manager that did not ask you if you wanted the car right then and there. I am sorry that someone else sold the car without knowing you were interested in it. However, I want to thank you for letting us know everything that happened and giving us the opportunity to make things right. Jay and I are sorry that our sales staff did ask you enough questions and assumed when they shouldn't have. You are VERY important to us and we enjoy the relationship that we have built over the years. We wish Jay could have been there to help your personally....but we also empower our employees to take ownership and be a part of this business. However, we feel bad that this error occurred.

From both customers, we have learned a lot as a whole...as owners, as a boss, as contributors to this community. Thank you for that as well. And we hope to serve you better (and better) in the future.

Fiat 500 in 4 models!

Chrysler will be building 4 models of the Fiat 500 in early 2011. A hatchback, convertible, station wagon, and a sporty hatchback will be made according to an article in Automotive News (June 29, 2009). Also, a small, 4-wheel drive SUV could be included in that mix as well. HOW EXCITING!!! However, my first thought is....hatchback vs. sport hatchback? Sound the same to me. This is the "sporty" one below.......I guess it's more aggressive? Can you say that about a small car?????

Also, they will wear the Fiat name badge but be made in either a Chrysler plant in the US or the plant in Toluca, Mexico where they currently build the PT Cruiser.

If you are wondering about size, the Fiat 500 hatchback is 33 inches longer than the Smart Car and seats 4. It is only 10 inches shorter than a Toyota Yaris. I do not know if I can drive one with my 2 kids (that still require huge car seats/boosters) but I sure something can be worked out! They look quite attractive and I'm sure their fuel savings is enormous.

WELCOME Hoopfest!!

To all you Hoopfesters this weekend:
GOOD LUCK and have a wonderful time in Spokane!!!

The weather should be beautiful for you and the downtown area is really nice to explore. Of course, I have not done too much of it, but there are many cute places to go, eat, and relax.

I enjoy the coffee at Rocket Bakery (http://www.rocketspokane.com/) and their whole wheat chocolate chip cookie is DELICIOUS and I feel "healthy" at the same time. TIP: For strong coffee drinkers, you might to add extra shots to your drink but it does not make it bitter at all!
The bakery items and coffee are also good at Madeleine's and so is the breakfast/lunch menu. (http://www.madeleines-spokane.com/)

Of course, the sandwiches at Domini's (703 W Sprague) are awesome. It's basically just meat and cheese. Their sweet hot mustard is delicious a well but the bread and the meat are the stars. You will not understand how just a meat and cheese sandwich wrapped in foil can be so good. There are the familiar favorites like the Nordstrom Cafe, the Pita Pit, Red Robin, and so on. It's familiar and filling. For more of a local restaurant, Twigs (in River Square Park Mall) has a great bar and bar menu, The Onion is a good family place with something for everyone, and Sushi.com (even though the name is funny) has great sushi and other Japanese food. There are so many places to eat that I can list them all!!!

For the kids, of course there is the huge Radio Flyer wagon to play on with the merry-go-round at the park and there is a kids' museum, Mobius (http://www.mobiusspokane.org/home.asp), to give the little ones something to do.

There is some nice shopping and cute shops to explore....if your basketballing comes to an end quicker than you wanted or expected.

I hope you have a great stay here and if you have time, stop by Spokane Chrysler! We have great deals to be had this weekend. Look at our inventory online: www.spokanechrysler.com

I just have to do it......

My own Michael Jackson memory might be different than some.....especially being Korean-American with a mom that thought classical music was the ONLY REAL music on this planet. To her, everything else was just noise.

Since my dad was in the US Army, he had some exposure to "western" music and actually loved contemporary music. He listened to everything from the Eagles to the Beach Boys to Motown. So, I listened to what he listened to. I remember putting on the radio and wearing HUGE headphones so I could hear it more clearly. Then in 1982, the Thriller album was released. I remember wanting it SO badly but actually buying albums or records (and later on tapes, etc.) was seen as a waste of money to my mom (unless it was classical music but as a kid, who would beg for Beethoven's greatest hits?). I was told that I could just listen to it on the radio. Sure. Good plan.
(*side note- To an immigrant mom from Korea...MANY things are considered a waste of money unless it's not directly related to education, cultural enrichment, getting in to Harvard or Stanford or whatever top university Koreans can think of, and of course, education.)

Next step is to ask my dad for it. So, I did but my mom heard and thought it was insane to spend money for something you could hear for free on the radio. My hopes were crushed. But one day, he brought it home (even with my mom yelling) and I can still remember putting the needle on the record with my heavy headphones on...and looking at the album, MJ in his white suit, from top to bottom...listening for hours. It was a true bonding moment for me...with MJ, my dad, and that version of pop music.

RIP Michael. Thanks for letting me bond with my dad and allowing us to get closer to each other through your music.

RIP Farrah Fawcett and Micheal Jackson.

Texting and Driving.....

Well, I would be lying if I told you that I have NEVER done any phone use while driving. I know I shouldn't have but it was too tempting. But now, there has been an unofficial test done and it just confirms what I thought. Texting while driving is really dangerous. I mean, you have to type on a little keyboard and drive at the same time? It's obvious that it's not as easy at putting on make up which is also not safe.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/31545004

However, this test points to the fact that your reaction time is SLOWER than someone who is drunk. WAY WORSE. gulp.

So, we KNOW it's dangerous but how do we get people to stop? If we only knew that answer to the many, many questions in life. I bet the Governor of South Carolina is also wondering that about himself. Sometimes, I think we know better but just can't stop or help ourselves.

Odds and Ends....

It's only Wednesday but it feels like it should be Friday. Anyone else out there with me on that?

So, it looks like good news for Formula One since it's staying put at ONE unit. The F.I.A. president Max Mosley is stepping down and budget caps are being moved and everyone is shifting so that the series will continue on as one..not two. It's surprising what can get done when the top 8 teams want to pull out.

The official website for the Cash for Clunkers is up. www.cars.gov. I read a survey that said 54% of Americans did not support this program. I see both sides. I like trying to get the economy going but I'm not sure if this is the right program because it only allows for sale of new cars. I understand wanting to help those companies to keep going and keep US jobs, but how many people can afford new cars right now EVEN with rebates of $3500 or $4500.

Jake Locker is meeting with the Anaheim Angels??!!! I knew he was drafted by them and he says his 1st priority is football, but I hope he stays committed to UW. Our football team is not much right now and without him????? Um...might as well be JV.

Also, the Oscars announced today that they will expand the "Best Picture" nomination for 5 movies to 10. I can't even think if there are 10 Oscar-nomination worthy movies out each year. I guess this will create more buzz and more to talk about...and hopefully, raise the bar of good quality movies.

Finally, Iran. Don't know what to say or what to do or what to think about the whole thing. Just have to trust that we are doing what we can for the innocent ones that might be getting hurt through all of this.

Chrysler's making some strides!!!

Just yesterday, J.D. Power and Associates released its study on initial vehicle quality, and the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands all showed improvement. The J.D. Power study surveys vehicle owners and leasees after 90 days of ownership, asking about 228 possible problems in their vehicles. And actually, Chrysler did by 15 points over last year while the industry average was only 10 points. Some pretty impressive gains from a company that was thought to be done with. Of the 10 most improved vehicles, five were from Chrysler, including the top three. The five vehicles from Chrysler Group are the Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Avenger, Jeep® Wrangler and Jeep Liberty.

The results “demonstrate that the improvements we have been implementing over the past year are starting to show for the company as a whole and within each of the brands,” said Doug Betts, Senior Vice President – Quality, Chrysler Group LLC.

Among some of the highlights for the Chrysler Group:

- The Jeep brand improved by 30 points and moved up three rank positions. This jump is attributable primarily to a 47 point improvement for the Jeep Wrangler.

- The Chrysler PT Cruiser, which tied for first place in the Compact Multi Activity Vehicle segment.

- The Chrysler Sebring (sedan and convertible) finished fourth in the very competitive Midsize Car segment. But when factoring out just the Chrysler Sebring sedan, the Chrysler Sebring convertible tied the Nissan Altima for first place in the segment with a score of 81 points.

Alright Chrysler!!!

Rear-wheel drive mid-size car...hmmmmmm

Well, it's been pretty good for the Chrysler 300 so far. The rear-wheel drive and AWD options haven't really deterred buyers too much....even in Spokane. But, what about the mid-size sedan, like the Sebring, in rear-wheel drive?

Chrysler is mulling over their options on what to do on the next re-make of the middle line sedan, the Sebring and the Avenger.

I think the Chrysler 200C (concept) is stunning and I hope they make it no matter what platform, driveline, etc. It's about time to get something with buzz in this segment for Chrysler.
Go here for more photos of the 200C from autoblog.com:

Friday.....more comments

So there was an incredible thunder and lightening show to finish off the abnormal, "Is it a full moon?" Friday that was June 19th. Of course...there always has to be a nice customer story to finish off the perfect "weird" Friday.

We had a customer bring their car in that they had bought from us. They went to Alton's who told them that some plug was loose and was leaking some type of fluid. She did not want to pay for us to also see if that was the case and diagnose the problem. So...we were at a standstill. Then she informed us that when she bought the car in April, the sales person told her that if "anything" came up in the 1st 90 days, that it would be covered! Sales people usually do not say such blanket statements because who knows what could happen in 90 days on a car but we had to listen to the customer and do some investigation. So, my husband had to get involved and see what was going on. We did some searching around to see if there were any problems with the car previously, etc. and well..it comes to be that the customer bought the car LAST April. April 2008!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure this customer didn't mean to have 3 people drop everything to get to the bottom of the situation.....to make sure the customer is taken care of....but I guess this is part of having an owner in the store everyday. The Spokane Chrysler difference.

Sigh. That was the kind of day we had yesterday. Hoping today is better.

Cash for Clunkers Part 2

Taken from www.Seattletimes.com, here are the details on this program:

The $1 billion program is authorized from July through November. It is expected to be implemented by early August.

-Passenger car owners could receive a voucher worth $3,500 if they traded in a passenger car getting 18 miles per gallon or less for a new car getting at least 22 mpg. (The mpg figures are the EPA ratings for combined city/highway driving. To find your car's combined rating, go to www.fueleconomy.gov).

-Owners of SUVs, pickup trucks or minivans that get 18 mpg or less could receive a voucher for $3,500 if their new SUV, truck or minivan gets at least 2 miles per gallon more than their old vehicle.

-Passenger car owners could get a voucher for $4,500 if they traded in a passenger car getting 18 mpg or less for a new car that is 10 mpg higher than the old car.

-SUV, pickup truck or minivan owners who get 18 mpg or less could receive a voucher for $4,500 if the mileage of the new truck or SUV is at least 5 mpg higher than the older vehicle.

-Large trucks (pickup trucks and vans weighing 6,000-8,500 pounds) with mileage of at least 15 mpg would be eligible for vouchers of $3,500 to $4,500.

-Participating dealers can access electronic vouchers from the government for consumers to purchase or lease qualifying vehicles.

-Dealers are directed to ensure that older vehicles are crushed or shredded to get the clunkers off the road.

-The program is aimed at replacing older vehicles, so it would not make financial sense for consumers owning an older car with a trade-in value greater than $3,500 or $4,500.

-Older trade-in vehicles must be in drivable condition, be manufactured in model year 1984 or later and be continuously insured and registered to the same owner for at least one year immediately prior to trade-in.

-The new vehicle must have a manufacturer's suggested retail price of less than $45,00

Good Luck and happy shopping!!!

What kind of Friday is this??!!!!

I think we have just been channeled into Disney's Freaky Friday movie or something. I wake up and the clouds and rains first give me a sign that today might be a little different. The winds are so active that it sounds like I'm at the ocean...I thought....I guess if I were really at the ocean, this would be a nice, welcome sound as I lay here in bed.

So, it's quite chilly in the house and it's mid-June. I think my computer pop-up thing said it was 60 degrees outside. Then I start going online to see what is going on in the world today....and well.. things are changing in this world. Maybe for the better....maybe not.

Then I started reading and here are some more "Freaky Friday" items. First, the diesel Cummings engine will no longer be in the Ram 1500. I understand that it's a "light-duty" engine and probably, it wasn't the most popular engine choice for the 1500. However, the long-standing tradition of the Cummings engine in all the Ram trucks is now gone...like the Old Chrysler. But I guess these are the things that will make the New Chrysler leaner and more efficient. Get rid of the stuff that doesn't sell well and make the stuff that does. I love traditions but I guess I would rather have a profitable manufacturer than keep something do to nostalgia.

Next, I see that Formula One racing is breaking apart!! WHAT???? HUH??!!! Are you kidding me? There will be a creation of a rival championship by the eight "rebel" teams. So, I guess there will be 2 different series? I think money is at the center of this and about what percentage is being made by the owner of F1, the race tracks, the teams, etc. Wow. Jay will be shocked! I'm sure many people will be too since splitting a series in 2 usually hurts the sport. Well, we shall see how all of this works out.

Also, a truck manufacturer from India, Mahindra, is trying to break into the US market with their inexpensive trucks. According to the Detroit Free Press, they have picked up 2 past Chrysler dealers to start selling their trucks in the fall. I hope it's positive for them....but, is the US ready for MORE vehicles? Are we ready for cars from India?

And I'm sure as this day goes on, there will be more "weird" events that unfold. I can't wait!

Happy Friday everyone!!

Cash for clunkers...coming our way!!!

Our government is trying......at least we can say that! Well, the "Cash for Clunkers" bill passed the Senate today and is on the way to Obama's desk to be signed. It will begin one month after he signs it and last until November 1.

You get $3500 if the car you are trading in get 18 mpg or less and you are buying a NEW car that gets 22 mpg or better. You get $4500 if you are buying a car that gets at least 10 mpg better than your trade-in.

If you drive an SUV, truck, or minivan, It's a little different. You will get $3500 if your trade-in gets 18 mpg or less and you are buying a NEW vehicle that gets at least 2 mpg better. It gets bumped up to $4500 if the new car gets 5 mpg or better than your trade-in.

The dealers has to prove that your "clunker" was crushed or shredded to get the gas guzzler off the road. I'm sure there will be other restrictions. Stay tuned.

yy

And we're open......

It was announced yesterday that 7 factories would re-open and start making some cars!!! I know it's hard to believe, but it's actually not as easy as you would think to get new inventory right now. Some dealers aren't willing to trade cars or sell them due to the current demand. We are selling new cars again!!!! It's great and it gets the economy going..not just locally, but in the midwest as well. Good news.....good news.

The following assembly plants are scheduled to resume production at the end of the month:

* Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (Sterling Heights, MI) – Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger
* Warren Truck Assembly Plant (Warren, MI) – Dodge Ram and Dodge Dakota
* St. Louis North Assembly Plant (Fenton, MO) – Dodge Ram
* Toledo Supplier Park (Toledo, OH) – Jeep® Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
* Brampton Assembly Plant (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) – Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Challenger
* Windsor Assembly Plant (Windsor, Ontario, Canada ) – Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan
* Toluca Assembly Plant (Toluca, Mexico) – Dodge Journey and Chrysler PT Cruiser

If only the price of gas would cooperate too. I know that it will probably not be "cheap" ever again but the volatility of the market just makes me either scratch my head in confusion or make a fist out of anger. The foreign oil. The local refineries. The stock market. It all makes me just so mad that we have to just take whatever we're stuck with......well, but I guess we could say that about a lot of things right now. So, I'll stop here......

On non-political or economic news, Jay wants an iphone. Well, I do too...however, we are "in" with Verizon and too many of our friends and family are too. It would not be a smart financial move to switch to a different carrier with all of the fees attached and so on and so forth. However, the applications are SO cool on the iphone. And just yesterday, I saw this on the NYTimes blog and well...Jay could have just driven to the AT&T store as soon as I told him about the Formula-1 application. http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/17/iphone-apps-for-the-formula-one-fan/ It's an application that follows the F1 racers from qualifying to the big race on Sunday. He enjoys F-1 racing very much but it's always on very early in the morning and recording it just isn't the same. AND usually, I have a ton of things for him to do on his one day off that he gets a week and sitting around watching a recorded car race hardly ever makes it on the "honey do" list. Maybe when we retire......

The Chrysler PT lives on!!!!!!!!!!

Well....hopefully, and maybe...and really only for a year or so more. If you read the last post, you'll know what I'm talking about. It makes sense to use the current PT factory until it's time to change over and retool to the new Fiat that will be produced.

How awesome since Spokane Chrysler is one of the TOP sellers of PT Cruisers. We love them and so do our customers. My husband calls it the Swiss Army Knife of small cars. It truly is when you see all that can fit in it with the different configurations.

Anyway......it's good news since letting go of everything all at once would be too hard. This gives us time to gradually let go.

Three words I would never imagine together.....

Both my kids seem to have me mistaken with a mom that loves getting up early and off to an early start. I hate waking up early......I'm a night person, by far. Anyway, I turned on the TV and saw an infomercial for YOGA BOOTY BALLET. What? Huh?

It was like a train wreck where I just had to watch it for a little bit....it is a "dance" workout dvd that really didn't look like it had anything to do with yoga, your booty, or ballet. But it seemed to work for the ladies on there that were claiming to lose tons of weight. More power to you for whatever works. Who am I to judge?

Another 3 words that I never imagined? Chrysler, Fiat, Tata. This is complete speculation but the new Chrysler could be the gateway for the Tata Nano in the US marketplace. The Indian car maker, Tata, has wanted to bring it's 2 passenger car, the Nano, to the US but has some big hurdles to cross first. They need to make sure the car passes strict US safety guidelines and they need to find showrooms to sell their cars. This alone should take years to hammer out. But, according to the NYTimes blog, Fiat and Tata already have a relationship so it could be a possibility. http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/09/tata-nano-at-fiat-chrysler-showrooms/
We shall see....we shall see. Could Chrysler become a global company owned by the union?

Chrylser brand bosses

Just a little snipit from Automotive News regarding the new executives that will be heading up the new Chrysler. I'm actually very excited to see the different direction this will take Chrysler...and make it competitive and better. We need change!
Chrysler's brand new brand men
Michael Accavitti
New job: CEO, Dodge brand
Background: Accavitti, a Chrysler lifer, got a taste of Italian automaking early in his career. In 1987, he was a manufacturing engineer in the Chrysler-Maserati joint venture that produced the Chrysler TC sporty car. After that, he worked in Chrysler manufacturing, overseas in Southeast Asia and in product development and marketing. His most recent position was Chrysler LLC's director of brand marketing.
Challenge: Dodge built its image on powerful, sporty cars. Accavitti must balance Dodge's traditional strengths with the need to meet the federal government's tough 35.5 mpg fleet average for 2016.

Michael Manley
Age: 45
New job: CEO, Jeep brand, and head of Chrysler Group LLC product planning
Background: Chrysler is entrusting a Brit with Jeep, its most American-style brand. Manley, trained as an engineer in the United Kingdom, joined DaimlerChrysler's dealer operations there in 2000. He was named vice president for dealer operations of the Chrysler group in 2003. He worked his way up last year to executive vice president for international sales and global product planning.
Challenge: Many critics say Jeep lost its way with watered-down vehicles that lacked off-road credentials, such as the Compass. Manley must decide whether to keep trying to broaden Jeep's appeal or return to its off-road roots.

Peter Fong
New job: CEO, Chrysler brand, and head of Chrysler Group sales
Background: No Chrysler lifer here, Fong spent 9 years as a U.S. Navy pilot before joining Lincoln Mercury in 1987 as a parts and service zone manager. He worked in Ford Motor's sales and marketing operations until he joined Chrysler last year. He was most recently director of Chrysler's mid-Atlantic business center.
Challenge: Chrysler has the weakest image and products of the automaker's 3 brands. Fong has the most leeway of the 3 brand CEOs to plot a new mission as Fiat infuses Chrysler with fresh products.

Pietro Gorlier
Age: 46
New job: CEO, Mopar Service and Parts and Customer Services, which includes customer service responsibility for the 3 vehicle brands.
Background: Gorlier, an Italian, joined Fiat in 1989, starting in aftersales parts logistics. In 2004, he was put in charge of dealer network development at Fiat Group Automobiles. In 2007, he added the same duties at Case New Holland, the Fiat-owned manufacturer of agricultural and construction equipment based in Burr Ridge, Ill. Gorlier played a key role in Fiat's negotiations to take control of Chrysler.
Challenge: Reinvigorate the Mopar brand and rebuild customer satisfaction through improved service and better customer relations methods.

Deep into the world of......

I know, I know. Many of you will laugh, scratch your head, and even get mad that this particular blog has NOTHING to do with cars, buying a car, or even anything transportation related. It's just that, currently, something I am involved with is consuming my mind (and time) and I have to write about it!!!!

I have entered the world of Korean dramas again!!!!!! Oh, the agony of it all.....all of the emotions, all of the time spent.....just watching Korean shows on the Internet!!!! I know..sounds VERY funny but it's something that a good majority of my Korean-American friends do. Actually, almost every Korean mom I know watches them in VCR tape form and I always just laughed at that part of life that just become "normal." Nowadays, there are different ways to watch Korean dramas. You can rent video tapes, DVD's, or watch them on the Internet. They are even subtitled for people like me that can understand about 95% of the dialogue but miss things here and there due to my extended vocabulary deficiency. And, the episodes come out once a week if it's a new drama. So, people wait agonizing for the week...waiting for the next, new episode to be available. My mom would go to the Korean video store each week to get the new tape.....while my friends can't wait to see it online. I can't wait week by week...so I wait until the whole drama is over and then watch the episodes at my leisure. BUT, I told myself I wodl'nt do this...get all wrapped up in it.....so much "wasted" time. But here I sit now...still thinking about the episode I watched last night.

So, in Korea, their dramas are not like American soap operas that run for 10,20, 30 years. They actually come to and end...and after watching the storyline for almost 20-30 hours...you get attached to the characters. So, when the drama ends, you actually feel a little...empty...or miss the show. So, not only have you emotionally invested yourself, you have also spent hours of your precious time with nothing to show for it except your thoughts. SO..that is why the last Korean drama I watched was 8 years ago. It was a love story (most are) with huge drama, emotional tension, self-denial, and tragedy. The last couple of episodes, I watched until 2-3am and cried my eyes out. I mean...they were red and swollen the next morning. I cried and cried and told myself that I won't put myself through that again. So, fast forward 8 years...and this new drama called Boys Before Flowers just came out and EVERYONE who has seen it has loved it more than I can even say. They talk about it, discuss this and that...I mean..it's crazy. See, there was a HUE drama called Full House like 5 years ago that was all the rage...and well, I was strong and didn't watch it because I didn't want to go down that path again....staying up late, crying, thinking about it the next day, wanting to see the next episode, etc. But I kept hearing about Boys Before Flowers......over and over...from people from the East coast to the West coast. And then my sister rented Full House. It is was game over. Even though it was 5 years ago...it was still so good. I couldn't wait to put in the next DVD...at the end of one disc, I was running (yes, running) to put in the next one. It was sad.....Jay laughed at me many times. And now, I've watched 2 episodes of Boys Before Flowers on the Internet....and I can already tell that I will be a wreck soon. You won't even believe how sad I was that the Full House drama was over when it ended. There are rumors that they want to make a Full House 2.....I am keeping my fingers crossed. (Even though the leading male role, Rain, won't be back....I really like him!!! He's so cute...even though he's "yesterday's news" in Korea.)

I cannot believe I have started watching these dramas again. Addictive...and I know most people won't understand what I have just rambled on about...but that's where I'm at. I'm becoming more and more like my mother. Korean drama habit and all. sigh.

<span class=boysbeforeflowers.jpg" src="http://www.koreandrama.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/boysbeforeflowers.jpg">

I know...so cheesy right???????? What has become of me!!!

Good job Lakers......

Have to give a "good job" when there is a win....even though you were cheering for the other team. It's crazy that Dwight Howard is only 23. I sure do hope that he will another chance to win an NBA title in his career.

The weather has been up and down in Spokane this weekend. Hot, muggy, raining, sun, clouds, etc. It's funny for Jay to hear people describe this weather as muggy since he grew up on the East Coast. The first time I went to meet his family was during Christmas break (I used to be a teacher) and as soon as I got off the plane....I thought the air was just so heavy. I saw him and I'm pretty sure my first words were..."It's SO muggy here." He looked at me and just laughed since it was December and everyone in Florida was "cold" in the 60 degree weather and didn't feel one bit of the humidity. It's all about perspective.......unfortunately, you get more if it as you get older. If only we knew MORE as a youngster....then those horrifying moments where you realized your mom/dad/grandma/grandpa/crazy uncle/etc. was right or wise wouldn't be so jarring. I hate those moments.

So, I've been noticing signs around the Spokane Valley about disincorporating. I have only been here for 6 years and almost had my head buried in the sand with the business so I am not sure which is better? Incorporate as a city OR disincorporate and be under the county. The pros and cons are not clear because yes, I do not like more taxes or higher budgets but then again, I enjoy the Spokane Valley parks and recreation programs that are available for my son. Do I need a city manager for that? I'm not sure but I like some of the services I get by being a city....so, what would be cut if Spokane Valley were to disincorporate? Actually, I'm sure there is some history behind it, but I have never understood why Spokane and Spokane Valley were 2 separate cities.

BBQ today at Spokane Chrysler!!!

It's a new day and a new Chrysler. We want to thank our long-time customers and employees for their business, loyalty, words of encouragement, referrals, and even the delicious treats over the 6 years that we have been here. We never imagined this kind of year (or global economy) when we started this adventure but we're thankful for lessons learned, disciplines taught, and displays of kindness and hard work. More than a business, Spokane Chrysler has evolved to become a vital part of our lives as far as relationships and people go. There is no amount of money that could take the place of what has been going on with the people that are in our lives everyday...employees and customers. We are truly thankful.

So, please come down for enjoy a simple bbq today at lunchtime. We are happy to host you and your family!

Jay on TV!

KREM2 news came out today to interview Jay regarding Chrysler, the bankruptcy, and what the future may bring.

The interview talked about how sales up are since people know Chrysler is around to stay and the savings that can be had right now on a new car. Also, the new electric or hybrid minivan that is in the works at Chrysler was mentioned. I can't wait for that one!!! That will make an already awesome minivan even better!!!! Leaner and greener....We're trying!!!

Also, like I mentioned before, there is a bbq tomorrow. Please stop by!!

I'm so proud of my husband!!!

A New Chrysler Celebration!!! Join us tomorrow!!

There will be a celebration and appreciation BBQ tomorrow at the dealership. Please come down around 12:30 for some delicious food. We are celebrating the start of a NEW Chrysler. A good time to buy a car company....

I guess the best time to pick up a bargain is during a global recession. Companies are lining up to buy car manufacturers....when I would think there are already too many car brands and the market could shed a few. But I guess global markets are different than what is happening in the US. So, Penske (an American company) is poised to purchase Saturn. A Chinese company is supposed to buy Hummer. A Swedish sports car manufacturer has been chosen to buy Saab and there are a few bidders in line for Volvo.

I can see how some of these car companies are desirable and have decent legs to stand on. But some, not too sure. But, I'm just a small dealer in Spokane, WA. Big risks usually has big returns! And I suppose....a bargain is a bargain.

Drugs....are a terrible thing.

I can't believe the story about Ryan Leaf. http://www.krem.com/topstories/stories/krem2-061109-leafwanted.6e190ab2.html He has such promise at one time but now he's a wanted man stemming from drug charges. Maybe he was injured and he used painkillers to get him through the games and he couldn't stop using them? Maybe he has experimented with others? Whatever the case, it's a tough spot he's in and I hope he gets the help he needs. Not sure if Randall County (somewhere in Texas??) prosecutors will do it but we can always hope.

THEN, I see the story about the dog that got high from marijuana that he found in the park???!!! http://www.krem.com/topstories/stories/krem061009WAB-dog-pot-park-KC.6d41982d.html
He wandered off the main path and found what he thought was a treat. I wonder what about it made him want to eat it. Interesting. Good thing he's ok...even though his owner is out $1500 for the vet bill!!!! Yikes!

Offended by Pike Place Market fish throwers?

I have NEVER thought of the fish being thrown as "toys". However, apparently, PETA believes the Pike Place Market fish tossers are treating the fist like toys. That thought has NEVER crossed my mind even once...no matter how many times I have been there to see the fish being tossed or thrown.

It just proves that EVERYONE has a different point of view out there.

Nick Montana commits to UW!

Nick Montana (Yes...Joe Montana's son!) has committed to UW and will sign in February. He is ranked no. 13 QB in the country by scout.com. He likes Coach Sarkisian and knows that he can take a QB to the pros.

I'm not sure if he will be as good as his dad, but at least we might be able to catch a glimpse of him at home games now.

Finally, some good UW football news.

It's official!!! The NEW Chrysler.....

Well, the sale of the good assets of Chrysler has been finalized to the Fiat group. The new company, Chrysler Group LLC, begins immediately. There has been some shake up in the executives as well. The Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne will head Chrysler and have Jim Press, former Chrysler president, as his deputy CEO and adviser. Each brand, Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge, and Mopar parts/service will each also have an executive to head the huge departments.

Moving on.....and to bigger and better. Well, Chrysler Group LLC doesn't have to be the biggest... but just better would bring success to everyone involved.....Fiat, the US government, the United Auto Workers, dealerships, the men and women involved with manufacturing, customers, etc. I could go on and on.

Goodbye 789 dealers......

Well, it's official. The bankruptcy judge ok'ed the closing of the 789 dealers that Chrysler has put on their termination list. The dealers were trying to stop that from happening but I guess the testimonies that happened last week weren't enough. I have to believe that it's the best thing for the "new" Chrysler and that the judge was trying to facilitate as best as he could.

To the dealers.....I am so sorry for what you, your family, and employees are going through. I cannot imagine the emotions that you are feeling and the ripple effect this will have on your communities. Our prayers are with you and may something positive and fruitful come from this tragedy and your sorrows.

Tidbit Friday

Lots of interesting things in the news today....well, they are interesting to me, at least.

SO.......Roger Penske, a former race car driver and businessman, has put in his bid to buy Saturn. I hope this deal works out for him. It's a risky move since cars aren't really selling right now but I'm sure he picked it up at a bargain. Big risks for big returns, right? At least it saves dealerships from closing and hundreds of thousands of jobs. For now, at least. It's a big adventure but Penske hasn't made his fortune by just playing it safe. We shall see...time will tell.

NEXT......layoffs for the month of May were the fewest since September, but the unemployment rate jumped to 9.4%. So I guess fewer employers are letting people go but they aren't hiring more either. And I know that it's hard for people without jobs to find one these days. We are praying and hoping for a couple of close friends right now. Analysts also predict that even though we are shedding less jobs each month, that the job market won't be back to "normal" levels for another 6 months to a year. It's not great news but it's better than what it could be. I'll take what I can get right now.....and positive is better than negative!!!

THEN.......the Lakers are on the prowl for another NBA Championship. This would be Coach Jackson's 10th title and Kobe's 4th title. Oh my. I guess this is why people either LOVE the Lakers or hate them. A true love/hate relationship, for me as well, because as a Sonics fan, I just dislikes them....but for a player (no matter if I like his personal life or not) and a coach that is this good....I kind of what them to win. BUT...not as much as I want the Magic to win!!!!! Rashard Lewis and a team that has NEVER won a championship???? Come on.... despite their poor showing last night, I am still behind them. I know they can bounce back. It was just nerves... yes..just nerves.

FINALLY......and it looks like Dishman Dodge had a bomb scare the other day. Geesh....what are people thinking? http://www.krem.com/topstories/stories/krem2-060409-standoff_.4cd7e4d6.html It's not the dealership's fault if you are getting your car taken back.... I can understand anger...but to want to physically hurt others? Yikes......violence is NOT the answer people!!!!

ok..have a fantastic weekend!!! I will be watching the French Open with total enthusiasm...even though it won't be a Williams sister in the finals and it won't be a Federer/Nadal rematch in the finals either. Also, basketball finals.....and all the other shows I have to catch up on that I missed during the week. ugghhh.....

Walmart drama.....

I can't believe the cold-blooded killing of the armored-car guard at the Walmart in Lakewood, WA. The gunmen/robbers just walked right up to him and shot him in the head and took the money bag. I cannot believe the brazen disregard for life. It's just plain shocking to me.

I pray for the family members of the man that was shot. What a loss they must be feeling right now.

Also on my mind.....our close friend who is in NYC right now before the Chrysler bankruptcy judge. His dealership in CA is slated to be closed. What a tough time their family is going through!!! It's heart-wrenching and emotional...from sad to mad to furious to indifferent to bitter to exhausted. There is no way that Jay and I ever "celebrated" or rejoiced because our dealership was spared. How can you when you know people who are about to lose everything and they have 3 kids and parents to support and so on and so on?????? It's such a hard time.... for so many people.

Losing a life to a senseless crime is just so terrible on top of everything.

Shapen your pencils!! oh wait...maybe get your typing fingers ready!

Go ahead an unblock your writer's block and break out the thesaurus! A couple in Coeur D'Alene, ID is giving their house to the best essay. http://www.krem.com/topstories/stories/krem2-060209-house-essay-contest.411c8bd3.html

In 1,500 words or less and $150 entry fee, you will win their house if you can persuade them to why you should get it. I wonder if true need and hardship will be the key. A non-profit use for the property? Wit and whimsy? I bet there are a lot of different angles. Just make sure you have your correct return address on the check for the entry fee because if they don't' get enough, they will return the check to you. That's very nice!

Now, this property comes with 11 acres......I know some people would DIE for that kind of land and space...while as I would die just thinking about taking care of the land. phew...I'm sure glad God made us all different!

Good luck writing!!!

Some good news for WASHINGTON state!!!!

Wooooooo Hoooooooo!!! There is an article talks about the order in which the states will get out of the recession and WA is on the top of the list!!! Of course, it's just speculation and a prediction but some good news regarding the recession is always welcomed in our house! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30991972/ The states will all exit the recession at different stages and we are in with 4 other states to get out by 4th quarter of this year. Idaho and Oregon are also on the list.....way to go, Pacific Northwest!!! I think the forecast has some merit but I still will wait to believe it until I see it because it was SO bad, SO fast...that it's hard for me to think that it will get better that quickly.

P.S. Good job on the Game 1 win for the UW softball team!!!! GO DAWGS!

I need to comment on a comment....

I received a comment re: my post on the Batali/Bourdain evening at the Paramount. And I just thought that I would share our story and what we are going through as dealers/owners and how things are not always as they seem......

Both my husband and I were born in this great country. I was born in Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, WA and my husband was born in Flushing, NY. Our parents are immigrants from South Korea and have a very typical immigrant story of hard work, hardship, and success. My parents came to WA many years ago because my father was in the US Army (Even today, military service is required by all males in S.Korea.) He was lucky because he was qualified enough to join the US army instead of the Korean army. My mother is an instructional aid for a school district in Tacoma. She has been teaching ESL for over 30 years. This job provided stability and insurance while my dad did various jobs and businesses over the years, just trying to get ahead. She also teaches adult ESL at night and I grew up thinking your parents working multiple jobs or morning and night was typical. Over the years, we had businesses that failed or promotions that were given to someone who spoke better English than my dad but that just added to the fact that they had to work harder than anyone else to have what everyone else had. They both worked VERY hard and gave our family a very middle class life....with the immigrant twist.

My husband's parents have more of the "American Dream" type of story. My father-in-law was responsible for the food in the teahouse for the South Korean pavilion in the 1964 World's Fair in New York. The S.Korean government thanked him for his service by allowing him to stay in the US and immigrate over. He started with only a couple of hundred dollars and with my mother-in-law, they worked their hands to the bone for 40 years. They did many businesses in the New York area and moved to Florida to run a motel. They did make a great living for themselves but worked almost 7 days a week and since motels do not close..they were on-call 24 hours a day. They made their retirement nest-egg by hard work, sweat, and tears.

So, instead of living off their retirement or buying an RV and traveling around the US, they decided to invest in a business called Spokane Chrysler. Yes, 6 years ago when the economy was booming, the numbers were right and everything looked rosy. The business was solid and we hoped to build something better for the next generation by working hard in a family business once again. Then, we noticed that the business year after year was contracting.....maybe it was due to the steep learning curve my husband had to tackle or because we had to fine-tune things. And well, we sure know that the bottom basically dropped out of the car market and we are doing all we can to make things work. Hindsight is 20/20, right? We don't have generations of money stock-piled up from when the car business was "good" and we don't have a business that is all paid off free and clear. We have to work hard to provide good customer service, be aggressive in our prices, and build relationships with our customers not only because those are good business practices, but also because our lives (mulitple generations) depend on the success of Spokane Chrysler.

And so to address the comment that was left.....how do I not have extra cash when I am a car dealer? Well, if you haven't noticed, we are in a global recession and people do not run out and buy cars when jobs are on the line. My family are immigrants and don't have anything else that what they earned on their own. There is no huge savings that we can just tap into. We "own" the dealership but really the bank does....and the money that might have been around to initially buy the business has long been invested into the business. Also, we do not "own" the cars we sell either...once again, the bank owns them. So, if you have bills and a budget for your home, imagine that multiplied by 1000 and that is almost what running a dealership is like. The cars I drive are for sale at any moment because I do not own them. If anyone wants to see the car, I have to load up my kids, drive down to the dealership, move the car seats to some other car, and drive back home. And also, if Chrysler had closed us (THANK GOD THEY DID NOT!!) then I would have lost my home and everything else I own. My husband works 6 days a week, usually from 8am to 8pm, and right now is on his 14th day of working without a day off. Is this a sob story? Of course not, it is what it is. The risks are huge in a business and we chose this life so we deal with whatever may come. We do not live the plush life that you might assume for someone who "owns" a big business. I'm sure there are car dealers out there who have had their dealership in their family for generations with HUGE homes and extra cash that lines their walls, but we are not one of them.

And if you knew me, I never act poor or claim to be poor. Because I know where I came from and what my parents had to do just to keep us in our house. I know the long hours my in-laws put in just so they could build on that American dream. Also, I was a teacher in Seattle in the poorest area and even taught in a school that was marked for homeless kids. I have seen how poverty affects kids, first hand. I don't try to get people to buy cars from me and I would never use something like poverty as a ploy. We are just trying to build something for my kids. But more than that, we also have 50 families that rely on my husband and his hard work. Our employees mean the world to us and I know my husband would pay them before he paid himself. The dealership doesn't just pay the bills but it supports families and keeps part of the economy in Spokane and Spokane Valley going. It's a much bigger picture than you are painting.

Obviously, you must not be a small business owner because you would know that any "extra cash" we have can be used 50 million other ways...not on a night out to hear 2 chefs talk. I guess I should have re-phrased it in saying that I do not have extra cash for such things as a show at the Paramount.

Chapter 11.....the once auto-giants

Well, I guess, the bigger you are..the bigger you fall. I sure hope GM gets out of bankruptcy quickly and efficiently. However, the 9 plant closings and leaving 3 idle.....so hard on the economy and those families. Can Michigan get a break here?

In related news, it looks like the "new" Chrysler sale to Fiat is going to happen. The judge ruled late last night to allow the sale to happen. There is a hearing on Wednesday for the 300 or so dealers that are protesting the sale. We have friends that are being shut down and there is no way that I can celebrate that we are staying open while they are hurting so badly. And it's tough to handle that you're being closed down and losing what you have worked for...but it have it all done away with in such a short timeline is just turning that dagger while adding salt to the wound. Such hard time for so many people.......

I hope that we get through this time. I know we will and we will come back stronger...but at what kind of damage in the meantime.
